Sarasota-Bradenton ranks high among U.S. Growth Cities for 2023 in U-Haul report

Let's Talk about Growth in our Greater Sarasota|Bradenton Area!

The Sarasota-Bradenton market has once again cracked the top tier in a national ranking, this time taking the No. 4 spot for fast growth according to a list by U-Haul, one of the country's most well-known moving and storage companies.

North Port ranked 13th on U-Haul's Growth Index.

Sarasota-Bradenton ranked just below two other Florida cities in the listing — the Palm Bay-Melbourne area and Ocala, which were ranked first and second for growth respectively — and Charleston, S.C., which was third.

For the third straight year, Florida ranked second in the nation behind Texas among growth states U-Haul shared in its early January growth index findings.

To create the ranking list each year, U-Haul calculates each city’s net gain (or loss) of the company's one-way equipment using customer transactions from the year. The U-Haul Growth Index is compiled from more than 2.5 million one-way truck, trailer, and moving container transactions that customers make annually across the U.S. and Canada.

The trend of new residents migrating to the Southeastern states of Florida, Texas, the Carolinas, and Tennessee continued in 2023, U-Haul found. Over half of new residents who choose to relocate to the Southeast land in the Sunshine State, the ranking shows.

Between Sarasota-Bradenton and North Port in the rankings were Austin, Texas (5), followed by Charlotte, N.C., Huntsville, Alabama, Dallas, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kissimmee-St. Cloud and Panama City. Lakeland ranked 20th.

"While U-Haul migration trends do not correlate directly to population or ecomic growth, the U-Haul Growth Index is an effective gauge of how well states and cities are attracting and maintaining residents," the company said in a news release. "U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. The geographical coverage from 23,000 U-Haul truck- and trailer-sharing locations provides a broad overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry."
